The perfect video editing for the first snowfall!

2024-02-16

Hello, this is GOM Lab.

Winter is coming! Are you well prepared?

When you think of winter, you probably want to shoot pretty and cool landscape videos like it's snowing.

It's definitely the time when you start seeing a lot of beautiful first snow reels and first snow videos on social media such as Instagram and YouTube.

However, when you take pictures of snow falling, there are times when it doesn't look as pretty as it actually looks. 🙁

Also, after shooting a video of snow falling, you may be wondering how to express the actual beauty when editing it.

Today, I would like to tell you a simple solution to this. It's about controlling the speed! 😆

Today's post is about adjusting video speed with GOM Mix.

So shall we begin?

02 Let’s make cool videos with speed control! Take advantage of the double speed feature of GOM Mix!

Part 1. It starts with filming! Take pictures of the first snowfall with your cell phone!

In order to use speed control correctly, you must first be good at shooting.

If you pay attention to frame settings when shooting, you can shoot higher quality video!

Let me briefly explain the concept of a frame.

Video is based on the principle of continuously showing multiple pictures per second.

When considering ‘1 second’ as a unit, you can think of the number of photos that pass as a ‘frame’.

The videos you see in everyday life, such as in movies and SNS, generally consist of 24 or 30 pictures in a row, and are called 24 frames (24fps) and 30 frames (30fps), respectively.

30 frames (fps) is used when producing general videos such as YouTube content.

On the other hand, 24 frames (24fps) is often used to create emotional videos because the vividness and details of the action are somewhat blurred compared to 30 frames.

At this time, the more photos that pass in one second (the higher the number of frames), the smoother the motion continues even if the frame interval is widened.

That's why it doesn't feel awkward when slow motion is applied.

Therefore, if you want to include slow motion, you need to check the frame settings in advance during the shooting stage.

After selecting slow motion in the camera settings, select 120 FPS or 240 FPS (FPS: frame rate).

If you shoot like this, you can shoot videos with slow motion, and your options for speed ramping work will expand during the editing stage.

If you film snowfall in slow motion, you can not only capture fast-falling snow in high definition, but you can also edit it to make it romantic. 😆

Part 2. Let’s make cool videos with speed control! Take advantage of the double speed feature of GOM Mix!

If you have shot a snowy video like this, you can transfer it to GOM Mix and proceed with editing.

Please load the clip you want to edit into the timeline!

After deciding on the section where you want to speed up, cut it using the cut function.

If you speed up the video using the video speed function shown at the top of the timeline, the length of the video clip will be compressed.

At this time, you will be able to see that the speed is affected by the compressed part.

If you pull the video clip in the back forward, you can see that the video is sped up and released.

So far, we have covered how to edit snowy videos using the speed control function.

It's simpler than you think, right?

Why not try editing various videos, such as winter vlogs and winter scenery videos, as well as first snow videos, using the method you learned today? 😊

As mentioned earlier, in order to freely control the speed of the video, it is important to first secure a large number of frames.

The reason is that if you adjust the speed at a low frame rate, frame drops will occur when slowing down.

Frame drop refers to a phenomenon in which the video is interrupted.

Please be careful as it may look strange if the video is interrupted!

To create an edited video like this, various processes are required.

It may look odd, but there's nothing to worry about!

The video editing program GOM Mix is designed so that even beginners can easily try it, allowing for a comfortable video editing experience.
