Some video sources, like TV and camcorders, capture and transmit images through a process called interlaced scanning. Most modern computer displays utilize progressive scanning, so when playing interlaced videos some overlapping in the image may occur (see below).

This kind of overlapping can be seen most often in instances of rapid motion and renders the affected video more or less unwatchable. GOM Encoder’s deinterlace function corrects this issue so interlaced videos can be viewed properly on progressive scan displays. This function only needs to be used on videos that have overlapping frames. If your video isn’t displaying overlapping frames, deinterlace won’t do anything.

To use the deinterlace function, click on [Settings] under “Output Info”, then click on the “Video” tab. Under the “Video Settings” heading, check the box next to “Deinterlace” and click [OK]. The deinterlace effect will now be applied to your conversions.

If a video has already been converted from its original source without deinterlacing, some overlapping may still occur even if you convert it again using the deinterlace function.
