#1LINKEmbedded Subtitle Files not Being Recognized by GOM for MKV filet ype. / Posted 2009 10/27 18:48
Hi there.

I've been using the Gom player for years without problems but now I've noticed (after getting files with three different types of embedded subtitles in them) that GOM player refuses to recognize any of the subtitle types.

The audio I can change perfectly with those files but No subtitles show.

The file I am playing is a MKV file and There are two audio tracks and three subtitle tracks embedded in them. I know this for a fact becasue the Audio tracks work with GOM, and the three different subtitle tracks worked when i burned those files onto a dvd.

The subtitles are not showing up in the Subtitle Exploerer either.

Information:

OS Version : Windows Vista sp2 32 Bit OS.
OS Language : English
GOM Software name : GOM Media Player
Where you download the software(URL) : http://www.gomlab.com/eng/GMP_download.html (I think...)
The setup file version : * V 2.1.18
Description : (Above)

Thanks In advance for any help anyone can give.

#2LINKSolution: Disable Internal Codec for MKV / Posted 2009 11/06 16:30
I had the same problem too whereas subtitles doesn't show on some MKV files I played. Because I really like using GOM Player, I didn't want to end up in downloading a different player just to play MKV files. It took me a while and I had to search around a bit plus messing with the GOM settings, but Its proved worthwhile since I've found the solution.

All you have to do is...

1. go to Preferences >> Filter
2. select Source Filter tab, look below in Source Filter Control
3. UnCheck Matroska (.mkv) in the List
4. Close and try playing your MKV files again =)

Subtitles should appear in the video now. Problem Solved! XD

Hope it works for you ^^

Note: Sub still wont show in the Subtitle Explorer, have no idea how to fix that, but I rarely and almost never use it, so getting the sub to show in video is already enough with me. I don't think it would affect most ppl.

#3LINKDidn't work. / Posted 2009 11/08 20:23
Thanks for that. Unfortunately it didn't work for some reason. I tried each step you mentioned in order and restarted GOM however still no subtitles. Oh well I guess I just need to find another player for those files.

Thanks again

#4LINKSubtitle fix not working / Posted 2009 11/14 09:59
I tried the fix suggested, unchecking the right filter box. When I did I ended up with no image, and no tracking. I could move the track along to any point on the tracking bar, and I'd actually see subtitles, but no video or sound. I hope this gets fixed as I've never found a viewer better than GOM and it's such a pain to have to use another player just for these files.

#5LINKOther ways around this issue... / Posted 2009 12/29 11:20
Hey all.

Don't know if anyone else is having this probelm but I have found a way around this rather anoying issue. As much as I love the GOM player it is just not one I will be able to successfully use wtih this particular series with the multiple subs and audio options. I have found (though it is rather inferior in many aspects) that the VLC player handles all my subtitle and audio issues quite wonderfully...so long as I don't try to resize the player with sometihng playing (This causes it to freeze though techcianlly it is still playing).

Kassie.
